About Diverse Landscape

Ladakh's landscape is one of dramatic contrasts, shaped by extreme altitude, aridity, and vast open spaces between the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges. The region is marked by pristine high-altitude lakes such as Pangong Tso and Tso Moriri, legendary mountain passes including Umling La, one of the world's highest motorable roads, Chang La, and the strategically important Zoji La, which connects Ladakh with Kashmir.

Striking landforms such as the high-altitude sand dunes of the Nubra Valley, deep gorges, and expansive cold deserts define much of the terrain. Fertile river valleys along the Indus, Nubra, Suru, and Sham rivers form vital lifelines, sustaining settlements, agriculture, and centuries-old cultural traditions amid otherwise stark mountains.
